Life in the trenches
100 years ago boys as young as fourteen found themselves in the middle of a war. Some faked their age or strode away on ships to get in war. Some fourteen year old's did not make it. In Gallipoli the soldiers were expected to dig their own rooms in the side of the trench. The best trenches had small buildings like radio rooms. Covered or reinforced with wood or iron. The best meal was some cheese, onion, jam, tea and hard tack. The high light was some bully beef. Two million diseased people dropped dead in the first world war. Body lice, ticks and flies cores sever inches. How would you feel if you lived in the trenches?
